Hon. Doug Siden
On Thursday, November 21, 2019, the Oakland East Bay Democratic Club (OEBDC) presented its Legacy Awards to four pillars of the Oakland community, Melody Davis, Dorothy King, Hon. William Patterson and Hon. Doug Siden.
The Club's Honorees were all recognized as Legacy leaders in Oakland. Dorothy King of Everett & Jones BBQ received the Compassionate Business Legacy Award. Melody Davis received the Community Activist Legacy Award. Hon. William Patterson of EBMUD received the Dynamic Political Legacy Award and Hon. Doug Siden received the Inspirational Humanitarian Legacy Award.
Hon. Vinnie Bacon, Fremont City Council member and the "Clean Money" candidate for Alameda County Board of Supervisors District 1 was the keynote speaker. Bacon has been a Fremont City Council member and an Alameda County Democratic Party Central Committee member since 2012. As a progressive, environmentalist Democrat, Bacon is one of a new breed of corporate-free candidates that do not take contributions from developers, corporations, lobbyists or PACs.
As a Fremont Council member, Bacon has fought for more affordable housing and against poorly planned development. He brought a progressive voice to the Fremont City Council with referrals on opposing rail cars coming through Alameda County, rent stabilization, minimum wage, Proposition 13 reform and making Fremont a sanctuary city. Bacon's dinner remarks centered on the community concerns and opposition to the Oakland As' move from the Coliseum to Howard Terminal.
